day four | new york city

Our final day in NYC.  There really is so much you could do in this city that we didn't even come close to getting it all done.  We packed a bit into our last day though.

In the morning we headed up to Central Park on the Subway which in hindsight was a great idea because that park is huge.  We probably should have taken a map.  We got lost, we probably walked further than we needed to and when we got back to the hotel and looked at where we'd been, we realised we missed half of the park.  Having said that, I doubt either of us would have been very keen to keep going.  We walked 3.5km before we called it quits and caught the Subway back. Glen was surprised by how many people were there jogging/walking/riding but I've watched so many romantic comedies that I expected it. J

In the afternoon we walked the Brooklyn Bridge. Well we went a little over half way and walked back.  The bridge was full of people, mostly tourists I suspect though there were plenty of people exercising as well.  What struck us as very different to home is that every hundred metres or so there were people selling water, art, t-shirts, souvenirs. It was very touristy and commercial.  It was a nice walk though if not a little crowded.

Next stop was the Flatiron building.  It was a lot newer looking than I expected it to be, not sure why.

We had a late lunch at Roxy before we headed back to the hotel to relax.

At around 7.30, we headed to the Empire State Building.  We thought we might get some nice photos of the city lights and we had read that after 9pm, the line wasn't too bad.  We probably waited for about an hour before we got to the Observation Deck. And by wait, I mean walked up, down and around snake lines until we finally made it to the 86th floor.  And then the people were lined up 3 deep against the fence to get a view so once you were at the front you took as many photos as you wanted. Glen took 78 photos!

We had a special treat while we were there with some tourist going off her nut swearing at her kids and partner, telling them she was going back to her f*&^ing room, she didn't care if she got f*&^ing lost, she'd had enough of the whole f&^%ing lot of them!  Very feral, very trashy and sadly, she was very Australian. We spoke with our best French accent for the rest of our time there! We left there at about 11pm and headed back to the Cosmic Diner for dinner.  We had walked almost 10km so it was nice to finally get to bed.

Very sad to say goodbye to NYC. Jode, you and me are going back!  Soon!

Still no Denny's but oh so close!
